StandUp For Kids Oceanside

Today I'm going to be talking about StandUp For Kids. This is a nationwide nonprofit organization in which I have a strong passion for. I have been volunteering at the Oceanside branch since June 2008, and have loved every minute of it. StandUp For Kids helps homeless youth who are on the streets because they have been abused and/or neglected, and are better off on the streets. Their mission statement is as follows:

"Promote self-sufficiency in homeless youth by providing empowering resources with non-judgemental praise and encouragement."

The Oceanside branch of StandUp has helped thousands of youth gain independence by living out its mission. StandUp has helped these kids change their lives by being fortunate enough to have a drop-in center. in Oceanside. At this drop-in center, they receive hot meals, clean clothes, showers and hygiene products, computer access for doing homework and/or performing job searches, learning Independent Living Skills (ILS's), Financial Skills, and the everyday life skills that we take for granted (such as communication, career, education, and parenting knowledge) that are neccessary to make it in this world.

Above all of the resources and services StandUp provides them, the most important thing we provide our kids is our love, care and support. The Oceanside StandUp is a family environment. These kids are my family, as I am theirs. We protect them, are advocates for them, love them and care for them. Most of these kids have never heard the words "I love you" and have been abused and/or neglected. They need to know and see that they are loved and are not worthless. This is one of the ways StandUp makes a life-changing possitive impact.

I am excited to spread the word of how StandUp For Kids has changed the lives of thousands of homeless youth. Please join me next week for an inspiring and touching story about one of my kids. I will be sharing his story about how he conquered the hardships and struggles of living on the streets, to one day having a happy family and finally achieving success and financial sufficientcy.
